Birth card compatibility
Birth card compatibility is your couple's shared major arcana, built from two dates. Each of you has a birth card, and the couple has one too, a third: it tells you what the relationship rests on and where the work lies. Enter two dates and I build it.
How the couple's card is worked out
Each person has a birth card - a major arcana from 1 to 22, the sum of all the digits of the birth date, reduced to a number no higher than 22 (as on the tarot birth card page). Your couple's card is your two cards merged into one: they are added, and if the total is over 22, 22 is taken off. That leaves a third card, shared by the two of you.
Some know this as a composite or relationship card. Here it rests on the tarot arcana and open arithmetic, with no promises: the card is the theme and climate of the couple, not a verdict. There are no bad cards in the deck, only awkward ones, and each has its own truth about what comes easy and what takes work.
The 22 couple cards
Each arcana is its own relationship card. Below is what each of the twenty-two says.
1 · The Magician
Your relationship runs on the sense that everything it needs is already here, between the two of you. The gift is real - together you can begin almost anything and make it move. The work lies in the daring, since the tools stay on the table until one of you reaches out to pick them up.
2 · The High Priestess
Between you lives a quiet knowing - you read each other in half-glances and long pauses, and much is understood with no word spoken. That closeness is a gift. The growth is in saying what you sense aloud, so the unspoken does not quietly pile up in the dark between you.
3 · The Empress
This is a card of tending - together you make warmth, a home, a feeling that things grow wherever you turn your care. Your strength is how naturally you nourish each other and whatever you build. The work is to tend without commanding, letting each of you ripen at your own pace.
4 · The Emperor
You two build something solid - clear roles, dependable ground, a frame that others lean on. The strength is stability, and people feel safe around you, as do you. The work is keeping the structure from turning stiff, and learning to breathe easy inside the very order you built.
5 · The Hierophant
Your bond leans on something larger than the two of you - shared values, a faith, an order you both trust to hold you up. The strength is common ground, a meaning you return to when things wobble. The growth is keeping those rules in service of your love, and daring to write a few of your own.
6 · The Lovers
Choice is the air this couple breathes - again and again you find yourselves deciding, and love here is something you pick on purpose. The strength is that little runs on autopilot, since you keep saying yes with open eyes. The work is facing those crossroads together rather than drifting past them.
7 · The Chariot
You move - as a pair you cover ground, chase what you want, and tend to arrive where you meant to. Your strength is momentum that holds even when the two of you pull in different directions. The work is steering as one, so the drive has a single heading and neither of you is dragged along behind it.
8 · Strength
This couple's power is gentleness - you meet heat without striking back, and you hold each other steady through the rough stretches. The strength is patience that never hardens into force. The work is to notice what all that restraint costs you, and to let your softness stay honest rather than swallowed.
9 · The Hermit
Space is written into this bond - each of you needs to step back and be alone before you can truly draw close again. The strength is depth, a room you give each other that keeps either from smothering. The work is making sure every stepping-away circles back, so distance stays a breath and never a wall.
10 · Wheel of Fortune
Your life together turns - seasons of plenty and lean, sudden rises and dips, more of them than most couples meet. The strength is your ease with it, a learned trick of riding the changes without clutching the spokes. The work is holding each other steady as the wheel moves, so trust is the thing that never spins.
11 · Justice
Fairness is the ground you stand on - you deal straight, you own your share, and truth between you is never up for trade. The strength is an honesty that keeps the bond clean. The work is letting the scales carry mercy too, so weighing does not slide into keeping score of who owes what to whom.
12 · The Hanged Man
This bond asks for patience - at times love here means hanging still and seeing each other from an angle no one else is given. The strength is that pause, and the truth it shows that rushing would miss. The work is telling a fruitful wait from being simply stuck, and climbing down once the view has been seen.
13 · Death
Clean endings are this couple's gift - together you can close what is finished and let old versions of the bond fall away without pretending. The strength is honesty, since neither of you clings to what has already died. The work is trusting the empty space that follows, and giving the new shape time to arrive.
14 · Temperance
You two are quiet alchemists - you take differences that should not fit and blend them into something that holds. The strength is balance, a middle you find where others see only opposites. The work is patience with the mixing, a little at a time, since a bond like yours sets slowly and cannot be hurried.
15 · The Devil
There is heat and magnetism here - a pull the two of you know by taste, strong enough to bind you close. The strength is intensity, a desire that stays honest and lets you feel each other fully. The work is naming what grips you, so the bond stays something you keep choosing freely, a door you always remember you can open.
16 · The Tower
This couple knows the sudden jolt - the moment a comfortable lie cracks and something false comes down all at once. The strength is that you stand firm on the rubble, and truth clears the ground for what is real. The work is trusting that what falls needed to fall, and building the next thing on honest earth.
17 · The Star
Hope is the quiet light of this bond - a shared vision draws you forward even through stretches where the road ahead goes dark. The strength is faith, in each other and in the place you are heading. The work is walking the near ground too, so the far star has a real path built step by step beneath it.
18 · The Moon
Yours is a bond that lives partly in the dark - dreams, fears, and unspoken things drift between you, and you sense them where others would be blind. The strength is that sensitivity to the depths. The work is telling a true signal from a fear you have painted, and coaxing the shadows gently into the light.
19 · The Sun
Warmth pours off this couple - people feel your joy from across a room, and openness comes easy to you both. The strength is that light, since little stays hidden and gladness is the natural weather between you. The work is letting each other see the cloudy days too, so the brightness never has to be performed.
20 · Judgement
This bond keeps asking you to reckon - old wounds and shared history rise up and want an answer rather than a shrug. The strength is your willingness to face them, forgive, and begin again renewed. The work is answering honestly, letting the past be fully heard so it can finally let the two of you rise.
21 · The World
A sense of wholeness runs through you two - even before the pieces settle, you feel how your life is meant to come together. The strength is that wide view, a direction you know and a shape you trust. The work is honoring the small unfinished pieces on the way, since a full circle is still walked one step at a time.
22 · The Fool
This is a beginner's bond - you can wipe the slate and start fresh as many times as love asks, meeting each other new. The strength is that openness, a place where no grudge hardens and every day can be a first. The work is letting some things put down roots, and looking before you leap so each start builds on the last.
FAQ
What is the couple's card in plain words?
It is a major arcana built from two birth dates. Each of you has your own card, and merging them gives a third - the shared card of the relationship. It shows the couple's theme: where you fit and what takes more work.
Is it the same as a destiny matrix?
A similar search, but here it is simpler and plainer: one tarot card per couple, built with open arithmetic from two dates. No octagrams and no promise to read your fate - the card speaks of the theme, the rest is up to you.
Can you trust the couple's card?
As a general tone, yes - as a verdict, no. The birth card is one layer of many and does not replace a living relationship. It gives the couple's theme and mood, not a ready answer. It is a mirror to look into together.
The card gives your couple its theme. What to do with it is up to the two of you.
