The Year Ahead Tarot Spread
Thirteen cards: one for the theme of the whole year, twelve for its months. A look at the year ahead, from January to December.
When to use it
Reach for it at the turn of the new year or on your birthday, when a new cycle opens and you want to take in the twelve months ahead.
Pull the cards
Hold your question about this spread in mind. The cards are already dealt face down in their positions, so flip each one yourself, upright or reversed as it falls, and read it together with its place. The full reading in my voice happens in the Mirror. Here you listen to the cards on your own.

The positions
1. Card of the year - One card goes in the center: the theme that runs through the whole year. It's the backbone of the spread. Read it first, and the months will show you how it unfolds.
2. The twelve months - Around the center, like a clock face, lie twelve cards from January to December. Each one shows the tone of that month and the main thing it turns on.
3. Neighboring months - Two or three cards in a row often read as a single wave: a lucky streak, a heavy stretch, a turn. Look not just at the month itself, but at the ones beside it.
How to read it
Start in the center, with the theme of the year. It sets the tone for everything else. Then move around the circle from January to December, reading each card as that month's weather, and each month alongside the ones next to it. Don't take it literally: the card for a hard month points to a theme worth a closer look. It isn't promising thirty dark days. The year is a story in twelve chapters, and not one of them reads as a verdict.
What to remember
A year spread doesn't schedule events by the calendar. It sketches the weather of each month and the main thread of the year. The year is built from your own decisions, and the spread only hints at where it'll be windy and where it'll be clear. I don't foretell your fate twelve months out.
FAQ
How do you do a year-ahead tarot spread?
Think of the year ahead, shuffle the deck and set one card in the center: that's the theme of the year. Lay twelve more around it in a circle, from January to December. Read the center first, then the months one by one, watching how the theme of the year unfolds month by month.
When is the best time to do a year-ahead spread?
Usually at the turn of the new year or on your birthday, when a new cycle opens. There's no strict rule, though. You can do a year-ahead spread on any day, counting twelve months out from there.
